Funnily enough we were recently approached by a guy who we run with from time to time from Ascended. Seems that a portion of their regular raiders are burnt out yet as many still wish to be raiding. The co-guild idea works for them and for us to give both guilds the opportunity to get into ICC in 25 man mode.
Obviously by running with them we also benefit from being able to do fights in heroic mode. This week we had our first joint run and downed 6/12 bosses with a heroic on Gunship. It was very messy but we had no wipes, we even got the weekly.
As it was a co-guild run I assumed we would have no dramas over loot but went with the guilds standard loot rules with BOE's and Primordials to be rolled on at the end. As always with potentially contentious loot raids I made myself the loot master and announced the loot rules and that if anyone wanted to QQ to come to me.
More than raids loot rules are that anyone can elect to roll on an item THEY can use. If they win an item, their roll on another item will not be considered eligible for the item if their items won total is higher than those they roll against. So to Clarify:
If all people rolling for an item have the same items won total, then all rolls count.
Ben roll 67, Bill rolls 93. Neither have had loot - Bill wins the roll
Ben roll 67, Bill rolls 93. Bill has already won an item - Ben wins the roll
Ben roll 67, Bill rolls 93. Both have had a loot item - Bill wins the roll
Ben roll 67, Bill rolls 93. Bill has won 2 items, Ben has won 1 - Ben wins the roll
NOTE: It is the number of items won, not the number of items you role on, which is totalled.
NOTE: If there are no takers for an Item it will go for DE. Enchanting mats will not be rolled.
NOTE: Loot masters Decision is final.
So surprisingly there were four items that were passed on and ended up in my bags. As I Don't DE I held on to them till the end to pass to a friendly enchanter.
One of the items passed on was a DPS ring that would have been an upgrade for one of the DPS Shamans in the group. He passed on the ring after noone else had shown an interest and then later rolled on and won Althors Abacus from the Heroic Gunship. No sooner had he received this item than he was messaging me asking if he could roll on the ring at the end of the raid.
Now whilst it sucks that the DPS won the sought after healer ring that would have been beneficial to several of the healers in the group that is within the ethos of the loot rules. To let everyone have a chance to leave with upgrades. However it is an abuse of that system to then want an item you had passed on to preserve your "First loot" priority. This is NOT how the system works.

The raid progressed happily until we rolled out the BOE's and the Primordials. Said Shaman then started throwing tanties about it being cruel to DE the ring.
So he ranted in raid chat for a bit and on vent then the whispering as below:
If the ring had been so important to him why did he pass? (Perhaps because there was no competition to it and the possibility of getting better upgrades and then guilting me into the ring trade later?)
Incidentally there was also a druid that could benefit from an OS item. I passed this item to her as she had not "Ripped" the system but had infact rolled on and won several items during the raid and because she had played by the intention of the loot rules I was happy to pass the item to her.
So there you go.... It doesnt matter who you run with - there is always one arse wants to have the loot drama!
I dont like De'ing items that can be a potential upgrade to people. But when someone is Farking with my loot rules I harden my heart and make the tough decisions to send a clear message that it can be done but it will NOT be tolerated.
Im still waiting for that slap across my knuckles from a Gm too....
Oh and the lesson of the day - The person you chose to raid with may not be a Prick - but that doesnt mean that his friends arent.
