Decisions Decisions

One of my dedicated Guildies found a new Blizzard Competition. For Cataclysm Beta Guild testing. This time for New Zealand and Australian guilds.

He was so excited he had to share and encourage the GM(me) to enter.... Thanks heaps - How does one pick the 10 to invite if we win??

Raiding and Realm Activity

Today I got distracted thinking about the number of guilds that I personally know of who have gone into hibernation or shut up shop recently. This is a common phenomenon that occurs after new content. People come on play hard, burn out, get bored, then take a break until the next big release.

Because so  many players have taken time out it can sometimes make filling raids  more challenging for those who didnt eat their whole bag of lollies in the first few hours.

Male Chauvanism lives!

Chauvinist is a word that arose because of the over-the-top antics of Nicholas Chauvin.

(Male chauvinism is a term used to describe the belief that men are superior to woman.)

Many years ago I worked at a decorating store part time. I was employed to advise on wallpaper, decoration and paint supplies. I knew my stuff and was one of the top sales people.

However there were the old school men who would come into the store and have to talk to a man (because the little woman wouldnt know about paint!)

ICC 25 - Loot wars everywhere

We have been looking for a guild to run 25man ICC's with for sometime. Alas the first two Gm's I spoke to have already got "Working relationships" with other guilds to achieve the same thing so we had to look further afield.

Funnily enough we were recently approached by a guy who we run with from time to time from Ascended. Seems that  a portion of their regular raiders are burnt out yet as many still wish to be raiding. The co-guild idea works for them and for us to give both guilds the opportunity to get into ICC in 25 man mode.

Obviously by running with them we also benefit from being able to do fights in heroic mode.  This week we had our first joint run and downed 6/12 bosses with a heroic on Gunship. It was very messy but we had no wipes, we even got the weekly.

Do you have a pocket protector?

Stereotypes suck.

  • I play WoW and I don't live in my parents basement.
  • I play WoW and I am not a fat geeky little boy who has no social life.
  • I got a haircut and a real job.
  • I shower regularly

After a recent influx of new recruits, it got me thinking about the dynamics of the people in game Vs peoples perception of Geeks being the only ones who play MMORPG's.

GKP Run - Take two

Tonight I joined the GKP run on my druid. This is the second time I have run with Phoenix Guardians on their runs.

Blizzard gave very little warning that tonight the server was going down at 8pm ST and the run was scheduled to start at 6pm ST. My initial disappointment, believing the run would surely be cancelled, was short lived as it was indeed to proceed.

The Gkp runs have their own chat channel in game and due to macros for people to be there and ready to go at 6pm we were actually well on the way through trash by the time raid start time arrived.

Guild accounts hacked

We have had a spate of guild member accounts hacked, as I am sure many others have too. And everytime there is usually a week or so delay before the items are reinstated to the guild bank (by ingame mail to me) and a corresponding email sent to my email account confirming what was sent ingame all very formal and proper.

The most recent hacking resulted in a few trivial items being taken from the guild as i had locked down the goldseller candy.

ICC 25 man GKP.

So I finally attended my first ICC GKP Run. I have had my name down for a few weeks but because they have so many wanting spots It was many weeks of standby before i finally got a chance to be "Confirmed".

Now I'm no hardcore raider, so I always get extremely nervous about doing things in pugs. And worse doing new content with pugs, which is why I tend to avoid them.

However I wanted to attend this particular one for the opportunity to buy some upgrades and for the potential of progression.

How big is too big?

What size is a good size for a guild?

My belief is that Guilds that invite too many people, that don't pick quality members, and invite new people all the time are generally less organized and less powerful as people can be more transient and the ones that you should be keeping are the ones you are losing because they cant stand the trade quality carryon in guild chat.

However, on the flip side it can be easier to find people to group with in a larger guild.
So I investigated what is the definition of a large guild Vs a small guild.

Rising to the Challenge of being a human being

So as you can see from my last post I hit rock bottom. But around every dark cloud is a silver lining.

I ended up talking to another Gm well into the early hours of the morning and he helped me see that what was upsetting me was that this was the first real challenge of my leadership of the guild. To coin his phrase, the honeymoon is over and its now crunch time.

WTF continued again

So Apparently the recent harrassment of me was because of the economy... I havent yet worked out what the link is but im sure you lot can help....

WTF continued

So you may have seen the screen shot where I hid the offenders name who tried to buy back into guild.. Well it seems some people are unbalanced and I am tired of the harrassment and abuse from this person - so today they lost the right to have identity protection.

An interesting Concept - time will tell

So I was in a guild run of Sunwell Plateau last night (we do "Olde Worlde" content weekly on a Monday night for a bit of fun and because Im an achievement junkie  - and a further digression-  DAMN Sunwell is hard  - ok so it would be a heap easier if we knew what we were doing before we went in, a bit of boss strat goes a long way, or if we had run it enough times to know it in our sleep. But its a great leveller to take 12x80's in - blind leading the blind!)...where was I.. oh yes so we were raiding and I get a random message. This in itself isnt note worthy as its a common thing. Be it someone asking if they can get a ginvite, someone wanting to give me advice about a guildie, a "gamemaster" telling me they have failed to send me a pet I should have received and I can pick it up by going to a certain website and logging in with my wow details or  guildies to tell me they murdered their neighbour what should they do? Ok so That hasn't happened yet but I reckon if I do this long enough, anything is possible!
